Vacation in Indianapolis, Indiana

For those of you that are looking for the perfect place to vacation this year, head to Indianapolis, Indiana.  There are so many things to do there, that you may need to come back the following year to do everything you missed.  If you like museums and fairs and parks, you will love Indianapolis. It is a great place to take the whole family.  It is also a terrific spot for friends who are vacationing together to visit.

For the art lover, Indianapolis is filled with several museums.  The Indiana Medical History Museum is a unique museum.  It is the nation’s largest and oldest pathology library.  There are more than 15,000 artifacts in the museum and it is in the National Registry of Historical Places.  The scientific collection of nineteenth and twentieth century artifacts is placed in authentic settings.

The Indiana State Museum is a favorite of the locals.  You will find natural, cultural and artistic history there.  Permanent and traveling displays are found at the museum and Indiana’s only IMAX Theater is located right in the museum.  Two restaurants are located inside the museum as well.  Spend the afternoon at the museum and have lunch while visiting.  Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop and find something to take to your friends.

If you are in town with your family, the Children’s Museum is right in the heart of Indianapolis.  It is one of the largest children’s museums in the world.  Take your children rock climbing on the wall or ride a turn of the century carousel.  The 356,000 square foot museum also has a SpaceQuest Planetarium.  Visit space here and learn all about the planets. The museum presents thousands of exhibitions and programs every year.  Many of the exhibits are hands on and are perfect for little ones to learn things.

If you plan your vacation right, you can go to the Indiana State Fair in August.  Visit and pet animals, see the shows and ride the attractions.  There are daily concerts.  Many of them are free with your entrance to the fair.  The live stock barns have cattle and sheep that you can pet.  The Saddle Horse Barn has miniature ponies, donkeys, mules and ponies.  The Poultry and Rabbit barn has baby chicks, ducks and geese.  Rabbits and bunnies are hopping around and guinea pigs are playing in the grass.  If you are lucky enough to arrive on the right day, you may see some baby chicks hatch.  You can also participate in the rooster crowing contest if you think are an expert in mimicking roosters.  The fair will also have tigers, fishing ponds and performing dogs and monkeys.  Don’t miss out on your opportunity to visit this excellent city and explore all that it has to offer.
